about

A classic Hip-Hop finish and familiar blend of soulful, R&B vibes are structural elements listeners have come to recognize as identifying factors in Milk’s music. In his latest works, “Mixtape Milk”, set to release March 6th 2021, (his birthday!) Milkshaw Benedict puts together a collection of new unreleased heat, and fan favorites. Paired with the meticulous prowess of Stupefye producer, Gib, Milkshaw delivers a vintage Primo, Kid Capri styled tape, with all of the nostalgic trimmings. Hosted by DJ Big Tunez of Brockton, “Mixtape Milk” preserves and integrates a classic Hip-Hop energy while feeling closely related to the distinctive sounds and styles of today. With tracks like “The Mantra,” and “Sacrificial Lamb,” it’s easy to trace Milk’s inspirations to the ODB’s and Busta’s of the early to late 90’s, however; moving into titles like “Spicy,” and “We Out Dis B****,” we can clearly see Milk’s comfort in maneuvering between classic and modern styles.

When reflecting on the creation process of the tape Milk explains, “how I structured the project is the way I structure my shows. The energy has to be flowing the same way,” which is exactly what the Roxbury native accomplished. Each transition is seamless and takes you deeper into Milk’s inspirations and his overall inner monologue. Milk’s erratic energy and home-town pride is intoxicating. The listener is immediately exhilarated. Milk’s bursting delivery, balanced by the funk and ruggedness of drums and cuts that encompass this project, make this 2021 project a release that the forefathers of Hip-Hop can be proud of. It is relevant, it is passionate, and pays homage to the brick layers of our beloved artform.
